Obituary of Carlos Garcia

Recitation of the Holy Rosary and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Santa Cruz this Thursday and Friday for Carlos Garcia who passed away in Sonora, Mexico on May 31st. Born in Santa Cruz, he was 58 years old. Carlos moved to Mexico when he was still an infant, and lived and worked with his family there. Returning to Santa Cruz when he was 19 years old, he began working for Campbell's Soup in Pescadero, and later for Big Creek Lumber on the North Coast. He also was employed with San Lorenzo Lumber and at the time of his passing was the owner and operator of Carlos Garcia & Sons Trucking Company. He will be remembered as a loving father, husband, and friend to many. Carlos was very generous with his time, and was helping in Mexico with a friend's home building project when he passed away. He was a mentor and a great friend who helped them learn how to drive their own trucks. Many fond memories of his love for fishing and the camping trips he went on with his loved ones will forever be cherished. Carlos and his wife of 35 years, Rafaela, attended Our Lady Star of the Sea and Holy Cross Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife Rafaela Garcia of Soquel, his sons, Erik, Steve and Carlos Rafael Garcia; his granddaughter, Sofia Rafaela Garcia; brothers, Alfonso Garcia, and Anastasio Jaime Garcia; sisters, Blanca Margarita and Alma Patricia Garcia all residing in Mexico, along with many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his two younger brothers, Arturo and Hector Garcia; his mother, Aurora Guadalupe Garcia, and this past month, his father, Santos Garcia of Mexico also preceded him in death. A viewing will take place on Thursday, June 5, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel. The rosary will be held at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel on Thursday evening beginning at 6:30p.m. The Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 6, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church (515 Frederick Street) in Santa Cruz beginning at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be private.
