Obituary of David Russell Gabriella

David R. Gabriella passed away on October 7, 2013 after a breif illness at his home in Soquel. He was 64. David was born in Boulder Colorado on April 15, 1949. He was the son of Thomas and Belva Gabriella. He grew up in Boulder and also spent time during his youth in Mexico due to his father's travels. He was a graduate of Campion Academy in Loveland, Colorado where he sang in the school choir and he was the Senior Class president. He attended the University of Colorado where he graduated with a degree in chemistry. In his youger years he worked for a time in cancer research. After moving to Santa Cruz County he owned and operated a Volkswagon engine repair shop in Boulder Creek and most recently he worked for VINVISION trucking. David enjoyed many outdoor activities including rock climbing, skiing, tennis and camping. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Mens Club at Spring Hills Golf Course. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was described by his family as having a very competitive nature and he will be remembered for his sense of humor , unique laugh and his hole in one on the 15th hole at Spring Hills. He is survived by his loving companion, Denise Mowery of Soquel; son, Sky Capes of Seattle, WA; daughter, Angela Wynne of Bellingham, WA; brother, Thomas Gabriella of Perrypark, CO and his stepdaughter, Tonya Mowery of Soquel. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and one nephew. A memorial service will be held at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz, CA on Saturday October 19, 2013 at 3:00 pm.
