Carol Gray

Obituary of Carol S. Gray

A farewell ceremony is planned for Carol S. Gray who passed away in Capitola, following a brave battle against ovarian cancer. She was 75 years old. Carol was the daughter of Jessie and Ralph Ramsey and was born in Kansas City Missouri. She graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1957, and attended Kansas State University. Carol met her husband Norman while they were both employed with Trans World Airlines in Kansas City. They married in Kansas City on July 17, 1964. Norman's contract flying required extensive travel, and Carol was able to reside in many locations including Yardley, Pennsylvania; Beirut, Lebanon; Amsterdam, Holland; and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, before finally settling in Santa Cruz where Norman's parents had retired. Oil painting was Carol's primary hobby. Additionally, she was active with the Philanthropic Educational Organization, holding a number of offices including Chapter President. She also worked part-time for the Santa Cruz County Elections Department. There will be many fond memories cherished of her helping in the pit area with Norman's vintage car racing. Despite 100 plus degree temperatures on the racetrack, she helped with adjustments, pit duties, and supplied a great deal of encouragement. She is survived by her husband, Norman Gray of Santa Cruz, her two sons, Brian of Ahwahnee, California, and Kevin of Los Angeles, California. She also leaves her three beloved granddaughters, Michaela, Hannah, and Mabel. Friends and family will gather on Saturday June 28, 2014 at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel to bid farewell to a wonderful wife, mother, and friend. The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. If you wish to light a candle online and share your thoughts and prayers with the family, please visit www.pacificgardenschapel.com A private committal at sea is planned.
