Obituary of Kenneth John Weinmann

Kenneth "Ken" J. Weinmann passed away peacefully at the age of 87. Ken was a 4th generation Californian, born and raised in Alameda, CA. He was a descendent of the well-known Laidley's of San Francisco and the Durney's of Alameda. His family came to Scotts Valley in 1889, and Ken became a permanent resident in 1958. After living in Scotts Valley for 55 years, he became known as The Ambassador of Bean Creek Road, always the first to welcome anyone new to the neighborhood. Ken graduated from St. Ignatius high school in 1944 and earned his BA from USF in 1950. Ken was a WWII Army veteran fighting in the South Pacific. One of Ken's most memorable moments in the military was riding out a typhoon without harm and that he was one of the first serviceman to land in Japan after VJ day. Ken worked in banking and in automotive retail until the age of 85. Ken was a devout Catholic, attending Mass daily. He studied history and geography and had extensive knowledge about Scotts Valley and Santa Cruz history. Ken was also a train buff, he loved both Union and Southern Pacific Railroads. Ken is survived by his niece Lizette, nephews Robert and Brian, in addition to nieces Susan and Christine, nephews Terry and Mike. He had 17 grandnieces and nephews and 4 great grandnieces and nephews. Ken also is survived by many, many cousins, friends and neighbors, all of which will miss him dearly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Ken on Friday December 20th, 2013 at St. John's Church, 120 Russell Ave, in Felton, CA beginning at 10:00 am. A Vigil will be held at the church Thursday, December 19th, 2013 at 7:00 pm. Ken will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, CA.
