Obituary of Mary Ellen Mullane

Mary Ellen Mullane Deasy passed away Tuesday May 20th, 2014 at home in Capitola, CA. She was born May 6th, 1950 in Bethesda, Maryland, to L. Wayne Mullane and Dolores Mullane. Mary Ellen graduated from Cornelia Connelly High school in Fullerton, California, and attended San Diego State College. She was a florist at heart but also was a real estate appraiser, developer and an investor. She worked at the Santa Cruz Harbor for several years. She was a child of the oceans, Mary Ellen had a lifelong connection to the water. When she was young her dad would launch her into body surfing waves in La Jolla. She was a surfer girl of the 60's, a surf brake was named after her in Leucadia, "Mary's" break. She began sailing her yacht 'Aphrodite' in the 80's with many voyages to San Francisco, Southern California and a dozen round trips to Mexico. At the time of her passing she was four years into a 10 year Blue Water Circumnavigation of the world. Aphrodite lies in Fiji. She was preceded in death by her father L. Wayne Mullane, mother Dolores J. Mullane and her loving niece Jennifer Mullane. She is survived by her husband Thomas Deasy of Capitola, CA. Sisters; Nancy Mullane of Encinitas, CA., Beth O'Mea (Tracey) of Encinitas, Ginger (Larry) Fries of Parker, CO., Denise (Mike) Falette. Of Olympia, WA. Brother's; Michael of Maine, George (Cindi) of Fullerton, CA. Her aunt, Dorothy Eckes of Auburn, CA. And by numerous nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand - nephews, as well as close friends, Annie Silva of Santa Cruz, CA. and Mike LaVelle of Capitola, CA. A private interment will take place at Soquel Pioneer Cemetery, a celebration of life will take place at 1335 Prospect Avenue, Capitola, on Saturday June 21st, at 2:00pm. In Lieu of flowers a donation to honor her memory may be made to your favorite charity.
