Father Larry came to dinner at our house in Cambria a week after the Catholic pardoned Galileo. As a scientist, I remarked it was nice of the Catholic to pardon Galileo 300 years later for being right, but asked about his colleague Bruno who was burnt at the stake.
Without skipping a beat, Father Larry quipped, "Those coals are still hot for heretics like you."
I will miss his whit, intelligence and sense of humor.

Our heartfelt Condolences to the family & friends of Father LARRY.
May you be comforted knowing that he has been received with open
arms at the Garden of Eden by The Lord & his Son Jesus. That is our
Catholic belief & what Father Larry preached to us .
We, as a family, his friends & parishioners have lost an incredible warm,
genuine, caring & humble human being, and he is already missed by us all.
Today we pray that you too find comfort under the loving care of our LORD,
& peace in your hearts at this very difficult time.
With loving blessings,

I am so sorry for your loss. I have known fr Larry for a few years. I'm a sacristan for St Benedict's/Sacred Heart Church here in Hollister! Fr Larry was our administrator a few years back while our pastor fr Rudy Ruiz was on his sabatical. One parishioner & myself often would visit fr Larry after mass on Sundays for an hour or two. I often tell him, if you ever need anything, please let me know & I will bring it by for you! He called me one time because he needed battery for his remote or testing machine....I don't recall. One time fr Larry, myself & another church friend went on a ride to Salinas because Fr Larry wanted to show us where he works. On the way back, we stopped at a fruit stand & fr bought me some fresh strawberries because it was close to my birthday. I would bring him a sandwich for his dinner at times. I treasured our visits because fr Larry is full of fun & he's full of knowledge! We had a lot of laughs together! He will truly be missed! R.I.P. fr Larry.

It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Father Larry. I got to know him when I lectored at Immaculate Conception Church in Hollister. Prior to Mass, there was always some light banter between Father Larry and those of us who were serving during the Mass.
Later, Father Larry helped me and my family through a difficult time. He officiated at the funerals of both my mother and my father. During this time, he conveyed compassion, understanding, and spiritual support and guidance to my family. He also displayed a personal touch in his eulogies to both my parents, incorporating humor and knowledge of their lives.
His sermons were always educational with a touch of humor. I will never forget his sermon about Elvis Presley. My mother was a big fan of Elvis, and she was very appreciative.
I always enjoyed Father Larry's presence, his keen intellect, and sense of humor. We had some good discussions about history and current events, and some nice lunches. I saved a number of the articles in the parish bulletins which Fr. Larry wrote. They were very meaningful and well written.
My prayers and thoughts are with the family at this time. Father Larry was a great man.

We are so sorry to hear of Father Larry's unexpected death. May his soul be at peace with our loving God. My mom and I will keep his soul the family in our prayers. I praise God for his life and vocation. When I left to spend time with the Norbertine Sisters to explore contemplative life, Father Larry blessed me during one of the Masses at Madonna. He was very excited for me. I'll always remember that.
Sincerely:
Rita and Theresa Beguhl

Fr Larry was pastor when I was at Resurrection. Loved his homilies...never forgot his Holy Thursday homily when he described the feet of each apostle! Once, coming out of Dominican after visiting my mom, I ran into him; when he found out Mom was sick, he asked for her room number and went right back in to visit with her. Fr Larry and I were also the godparents for Michiko's granddaughter. May Fr Larry rest in peace, a beautiful face for God.

My thoughts and prayers are with Fr. Larry's family and friends. I remember Fr. Larry as a kind, gentle and dedicated priest who loved his ministry and those who shared in that ministry. His humble and straightforward manner certainly was endearing to his parishioners and exemplary to us, his brother priests. May he be in God's loving heart and attending to the Table of his Son in Eternity and may he have jokes to last him forever! Eternal rest unto him, O Lord.
