Obituary of Cynthia L Quill

Cynthia Quill passed away July 21, 2014 at her Aptos residence from complications of lung cancer. She was 60. Cynthia was born in Gustine, California on February 8, 1954, the daughter of Leroy DeGrendele and Audrey (Penney) DeGrendele. She grew up in Gustine and was a graduate of Gustine High School. She attended Modesto Junior College and also Cabrillo College in Aptos. After working as a court clerk, and a variety of positions in the retail food and beverage industry, Cynthia returned to college in order to pursue a career in K-12 education, and spent the last twenty plus years as an instructional technician with Santa Cruz City Schools where she helped special needs students with their studies. Cynthia was very caring and devoted to helping her students succeed. Cynthia grew up water skiing at lake Don Pedro, was on the local swim team, and was an award winning majorette and baton twirler. In her teens, Cynthia rode horses in rodeo, was a senior lifeguard/WSI, and parachuted (solo). As an adult, Cynthia enjoyed gardening and traveling, was a Girl Scout leader and middle school golf team coach, who also played golf, tennis and softball. She was a fan of the SF 49ers, SF Giants and San Jose Sharks. Cynthia loved downhill skiing and frequented Squaw Valley for many years. An advanced skier, Cynthia skied in a Pro-Am event, was on National Ski Patrol, and helicopter skied, among other accomplishments. Cynthia is survived by her husband of 31 years, Brian Quill; mother, Audrey Axe; sister, Debbie DeGrendele; brother, Dave DeGrendele and god-daughter, Jacquelyn Martinez. She is also survived by three nieces, two nephews, two aunts and three uncles. Cynthia was preceded in death by her father, Leroy DeGrendele and brother, Doug DeGrendele. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 2pm at Resurrection Church, located at 7600 Soquel Dr., Aptos, CA 95003. Immediately following the memorial service, please join Cynthia’s family and friends to share stories and memories at the Markey Community Center adjacent to the church, where hors d’oeuvres will be served.
