Obituary of Robert F MacFarlane

On October 23, 2014, Robert "Bob" Macfarlane passed peacefully at home on his 91st birthday surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife Joan of 63 years, children, Robert Jr, Bonnie, Laurie, Nancy and Joni, grandchildren, Junnifer, Daniel, Nika, Melina, Taj and great grandchildren, Emilio, Miguel, Carmen Isabella and Gabriela. Robert was born in New York on October 23, 1923 to William and Matilda Macfarlane. He attended grammar, high school, and trade school in the New York area. In his early years Robert worked as a lifeguard in New York after completing his service tour from 1942-1946 in WW II as a first class Seaman in the US Coast Guard. Robert was a volunteer fireman in Mt. Vernon N.Y. and then he worked for the New York State Highway Department of Transportation as a tree surgeon and crew foreman until his retirement in the early 90s. His love of the ocean brought much joy to him in his retirement years here in Santa Cruz, where he and Joan moved closer to family. Robert enjoyed swimming, stamp and coin collecting, playing horseshoes and spending time with his family. He was an avid gardener and grew some of the best tomatoes around. Private family services were held in Santa Cruz, CA for Robert Macfarlane on Saturday, October 25th. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
