Obituary of Mary F Coates

Mary Frances Coates passed away on October 2, 2013 at her Soquel home. She was 81. She was born December 12, 1931 in Gilroy, California, the daughter of Albert and Emily (Schulte) Gurries. She grew up in Gilroy and later attended Notre Dame High School in Belmont. Mary has been a resident of San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the Monterey Peninsula and for the past 27 years a resident of Soquel. Mary was a dedicated homemaker, mother and grandmother. During her life time she also was a small business owner and worked as a manager and bookkeeper for several businesses. She was a member of St Joseph's Catholic Church where she ministered to the elderly and homebound. She was a classroom volunteer at DeLaveaga Elementary School and a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul. Mary also worked on fund raising efforts to raise money for the elderly and homebound and many charities at St. Joseph's Catholic Community. She is survived by her children, Stephen Coates, Clifford Coates, Kathleen Coates Norman and William Coates; her sister, Mildred Brandstetter and two brothers, Harold Gurries and Ronald Gurries. She is also survived by seven grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 435 Monterey Ave., Capitola, CA on Friday October 18, 2013 at 10:00 am.
