Obituary of Shoon Koung Lim

Shoon Koung "Mike" Lim Shoon "Mike" Lim passed away on November 19, 2013 at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City. He was 85. He was born and raised in Toishan, China. In 1947 he immigrated to the United States and settled in Santa Cruz. In the earlier years, he worked at Foodland Market in Santa Cruz for several years and later worked in the grocery business in Monterey. He returned to Santa Cruz where he began working with his father in law at the Cathay Cafe on the corner of Soquel and Pacific Avenues. In 1967 he built a new restaurant on Pacific Avenue, Cathay House where he and his wife Sue worked for over 30 years. He was hard working and a devoted family man. He loved spending time with his family and especially his four grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sue Lim of Santa Cruz; daughter, Jessie Lim and her husband Jeffrey Tung of Redwood City; sons, Garry Lim and his wife Suzanne of Palo Alto and Larry Lim of Redwood City; He is also survived by four grandchildren, David and Sarah Lim and Brett and Alex Tung. Services will be held at Oakwood Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Rd., Santa Cruz, CA on Friday November 29, 2013 at 11:00 am. Family and friends are invited to call at Oakwood Chapel on Friday beginning at 10:00 am. Arrangements are by Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.
