Rosalia Maestas

Obituary of Rosalia "Rosie" Maestas

Friends and family will gather in Santa Cruz on Monday evening and Tuesday, to say goodbye to a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Rosie Maestas, who passed away unexpectedly at Dominican Hospital this past Friday. Born in Gonzales Ranch, New Mexico, she was 67 years old.

Rosie moved to Santa Cruz 44 years ago with her husband and family and was a long-time parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

For more than 15 years, Rosie worked as a patient service representative with Dominican Hospital. She leaves many dear friends, co-workers, patients, and their families, who will miss her warm smile and the kindness that she was able to extend to all.

Rosie was a member of Young Ladies Institute, and served as a past president for the organization. Her family was her life. Rosie was absolutely and completely dedicated to her children and grandchildren. The countless holidays, family gatherings, and special occasions where Rosie prepared wonderful meals, will forever be cherished. All times spent with her grandchildren were special times for her, and she truly felt blessed to be a vital part of their lives.

Rosie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Rory McFadden of Aptos, her sons and daughter-in-law, Peter and Renee Maestas, and Johnnie Maestas; her beloved grandchildren: Zac Maestas, Matthew Maestas, Asia Maestas, Marina Maestas, Layla Maestas, Abigal McFadden, and Johnnie Maestas. One of 12 children, she was preceded in death by two siblings and is survived by 9 brothers and sisters. Rosie was preceded in death by her husband Johnny G. Maestas in October of 2010.

A vigil service will be held on Monday evening, October 30th at Holy Cross Church (126 High Street) in Santa Cruz beginning at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 31st, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Committal services are private. Rosie's favorite color was red, and she would have been immensely pleased if you were to wear your favorite red outfit to her services, in her memory.
