Obituary of Nancy Louise Gill

Nancy Louise Gill, long time resident of Watsonville passed away peacefully Monday May 12, 2014 of metastatic breast and liver cancer. Nancy was born in Visalia, CA to Donald and Lucille Wells on October 29, 1924. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 42 years, Hugh Gill, and her twin younger sisters Betty Hoxie and Jean Stevenson. Nancy graduated Visalia High School. She worked at Sylvania, where she met Hugh and they married in 1969. Nancy next attended Cabrillo College and completed her LVN in 1972. Nancy was employed by Watsonville Community Hospital Emergency Department until she retired in 1989 where she made many life long friends. Through the years Nancy enjoyed gardening, reading, camping and travel. She loved to cook and bake and tried many new recipes with friends and family. Nancy taught CPR to hundreds of students throughout the county. She was also a member of PEO. Nancy spent the last few years of her life embracing and learning about the Buddhist practice, meditation and the application of the Dharma under the guidance of her teachers. She was a member of Insight Santa Cruz a Buddhist Meditation Community. She made many new friends whose lives she touched with her loving wisdom and kindness. At the end of her life she was given the Buddhist name Metta Panna, one who embodies loving kindness and wisdom. Nancy leaves her daughter Mary Margaret Schlee and Joseph R. Ferguson of Madera, Susan and Patrick Cummins-Aptos, Jane and Robert Mathis-Clearfield, Utah, Hugh and Mary Gill-Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, Patience and Scott Beck-Capitola and Gretchen Wolff Reynolds of Scotts Valley, several grandchildren, great grandchildren nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of Nancy's life on Saturday May 24th at 11am, Insight Santa Cruz, 1010 Fair Ave. At Nancy's request a Potluck luncheon will follow!
