Obituary of Charleen Marie Van Veldhuizen

Charleen Marie Van Veldhuizen, 81, of Aptos, California passed away Tuesday morning December 31, 2013 peacefully in her home of lung cancer. A resident of Aptos since 1964, she was born in Erie, Pennsylvania April 30, 1932, the daughter of the late William Gussman and Charlotte Duffy. Charleen was very actively involved in Greybears. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society/Santa Cruz Beach Babes and played the Ukulele with the Ukulele Club of Santa Cruz. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved to fish and walk on the beach with her German Shepherd, Max. She enjoyed novels, movies and the San Francisco Giants. She traveled to many places, but her favorite was the Island of Kauai. Charleen loved life to the fullest and she was the center of our family. Survivors include her two sons, Robert Beckwith of Aptos, CA and William Beckwith and his wife Lorna of Watsonville, CA. One sister, Linda Valentine of Ladera Ranch, CA; grandchildren, Benjamin, Christopher and Connor Beckwith, Kimberly Van Veldhuizen and Cody and Charlee; great-grandchildren, Anastasia, Isabella and Khloe; niece, Lindsey Valentine and nephew, Karl Duffy. An open house luncheon will be held in Charleen's memory on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 1 pm - 4 pm at 122 San Benito in Aptos, CA.
