Obituary of Jeanne Marie Smith

Jeanne M. Smith passed away on November 18, 2013 at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. She was 93. Jeanne was born in Aptos where she attended elementary school and Watsonville High School. After high school she attended nursing school at the Franklin Hospital in San Francisco where she worked prior to serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. Her husband Walt Smith retired from the Department of Fish and Game in 1983 and they returned to Aptos. Jeanne volunteered with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile and for Meals on Wheels. For many years she enjoyed playing tennis, gardening and traveling. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Walton A. Smith in 2002 and her son, David Smith in 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Moreno and her husband, Dan of Sun Lakes, Arizona; granddaughter, Kelly Bieling and her husband Chris of Draper, Utah; grandson, Daniel Smith and daughter in law, Betty Smith both of Sunnyvale; great grandchildren, Sierra Bieling and Riley Bieling both of Draper, Utah. A graveside service for family will be held at Soquel Cemetery, Old San Jose Rd., Soquel, CA. Arrangements are under the direction of Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.
