Irma Cully Campbell died peacefully in Santa Cruz April 4, 2014, five days before her 92nd birthday. She inspired family, friends, students and colleagues by her energy, resourcefulness, creativity, organization and humor. Irma's life work was caring for others. She married at 19 and fulfilling a promise to her mother she raised 2 sisters along with her own 3 children. She had many jobs but her favorite was managing the circulation desk at Merritt College in Oakland for 15 years. Her home in Oakland was a sanctuary for people from all around the world. She was a natural story teller and known for her masterful art of playing her many harmonicas. She belonged to a Harmonica Band at Piedmont High School where she graduated in 1940. Irma was the second born of four children on April 9, 1922. Her father immigrated from Belfast, Ireland and her mother was a second generation San Franciscan. Irma was predeceased by both her husbands. She is survived by her 3 children, Gailanne Savage, Ron Campbell, Nancy Schaeffer, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. We all miss her and know she rests in the arms of Jesus.
