Obituary of Catherine Jean Bogner

Recitation of the Holy Rosary and a Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Sunday and Monday for Kay Bogner who passed away early Wednesday at her home following a lengthy illness with her loving family at her bedside. Born in Campbell, California to Nick and Anna Ban, she was 86 years old. Kay was proud of her Yugoslavian heritage. She graduated from high school in Campbell moved to Santa Cruz in 1961. Kay was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all. She volunteered her time at Driftwood Convalescent Hospital for many years, providing compassion and assistance to those in need. She attended Holy Cross Catholic Church, San Agustin Church in Scotts Valley, St. John's Church in Felton, and was member of Y.L.I. Her family was of paramount importance in her life, and Kay's love and the joy she shared in the moments and events of their lives was constant. Many fond memories will be forever cherished of her affection for children; not just her own grandchildren, but anyone's. Her smile, wit, and casual style will be truly missed and never forgotten. She and her husband of 64 years, Ralph Bogner, were accomplished travelers; visiting Croatia and other parts of Europe, China, Australia, and Hawaii numerous times. Kay and Ralph also traveled throughout the country in their R.V. She is survived by her husband Ralph Bogner, her sons and daughters-in-law Larry Bogner (Lynda) of Napa; Ed Bogner (Julie) of Santa Cruz; Nick Bogner (Jennifer) of Capitola, and her daughter and son-in-law Gail Clary (John). She was "Nona" to her seven beloved grandchildren: Katy Michelson, Lindsey Bogner, Matthew Bogner, Christopher Clary, Rebecca Dambach, Blake Bogner, Meagan O'Dell; and her three great granddaughters: Morgyn, Tuesday, and Buckley. She was preceded in death by her sister, Anna Stojanovich, and her brothers, Peter Ban and Stephen Ban. A very special thank you is acknowledged by Kay's family to Pacific Angels Homecare for the exceptional care and dedication shown to her. Friends may pay their respects at a viewing to be held on Sunday October 26th at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. followed by the recitation of the rosary beginning at 7 p.m. The mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 27th, at St. John's Church (Highway 9 and Russell Ave. in Felton) beginning at 10:30 a.m. The committal ceremony will be held at Holy Cross Mausoleum, in Santa Cruz. Any kind acts of charity can be made in Kay's memory to Hospice of Santa Cruz County; or to Alzheimer's disease Research (alz.org.) or to St. John's Catholic Church.
