Obituary of Irvin Raymond Kobsa

January 7, 1931 – December 18, 2014 58 Year Resident of San Jose A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday January 5th, in San Jose for Irv Kobsa who passed away peacefully on December 18, 2014. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Irv earned his Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Purdue, and his Masters' Degree in Engineering from Cal Tech. He served his country in the Air Force. Irv was a brilliant mechanical engineer employed by General Electric for more than 35 years and he holds 23 patents. He was a long time parishioner and member of the Holy Name Society at St. Christopher's Catholic Church. After retirement, he served as a volunteer ombudsman advocating for the elderly in nursing homes and as a math tutor for young adults seeking their GED. Irv loved adventure and was a world traveler. He will be fondly remembered for his generosity, optimism, sense of humor and his warm, approachable nature. When asked how he was doing, his usual response was "I'm always good." He loved family gatherings and will be dearly missed. He is survived by his two daughters and a son in-law, Mary and Frank Kline of Santa Cruz, Ann Kobsa of Hawaii; his sister, Phyllis Fulton of Chicago; his grandsons, Dylan and Jason Kline, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Irv was preceded in death by his beloved wife Irene in 1986. The mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday January 5, 2015, at St. Christopher's Catholic Church. (1576 Curtner Ave. San Jose, CA. 95125) He will be laid to rest beside his late wife Irene, at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Los Altos.
