Obituary of Mary Helen Landino

Mary Helen Landino, passed away on September 1, 2013 at La Posada in Santa Cruz, her family was by her side. Helen was 83. She was born November 10, 1929, to Alfred and Mary (Lobato) McCoy in Riverside, California. She was raised throughout California as her father working in construction moved often for work. As a young woman she worked as a grocery clerk. In 1949 she met and married Oliver B. Smith settling in San Jose and later moving to Santa Cruz in 1957 where she raised her six children. In later life she married Tony Landino. She worked alongside Tony in his well drilling business Landino Well Drilling and Construction as his secretary and bookkeeper for many years. She loved reading books and playing games of all kinds including, Dominos, card games and playing the slot machines. She especially looked forward to traveling around the world. She is survived by her sons, James Smith of Santa Cruz and Jeffrey Smith of Soquel; four daughters, Claudia Stever of Morgan Hill, Pamela Turner of Felton, Deborah Silva of Penn Valley and Marcia Ray of Modesto; brother, Jack McCoy of San Jose; sister, Rebecca Smith of Jamestown; three stepchildren, Carol Simpkins, Bradley Landino and David Landino all of Santa Cruz. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, nine step grandchildren, one step great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, Tony Landino in 1998. A memorial service will be held at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz, CA on Saturday September 28, 2013 beginning at 1:00 pm.
