Adam Mokres

Obituary of Adam Edward Mokres

Devoted father, son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend Adam Mokres, 47, passed away un-expectedly at his home in Chico, CA on July 14th, 2014. Adam Edward Mokres was born in Santa Cruz, CA on March 14th, 1967. He attended Good Shepherd Catholic School, Branciforte Junior High School and graduated from Soquel High School in 1985. Adam was an outstanding athlete and played four years of football and baseball in high school. He was also named Best All Around Senior Guy by his fellow Knights! He played baseball at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cuesta Community College and Long Beach State. He studied Construction Management at Chico State University and graduated in 1992. During his career Adam was employed by PG&E & Giacolone Design Services Inc. He realized his goal and established Mokres Design Inc. in 2003. Adam was a very skilled and talented gas and electrical estimator. He was known to be one of the best in the state and his reputation for honesty, integrity, accuracy and quick turnaround time made him sought after in the industry. Adam was born to fish & hunt! He was first introduced to hunting at the young age of 10 by the late Stan Roitz of Santa Cruz who became a role model and mentor. Stan and his sons John & Paul took Adam along on a pigeon hunting trip and from then on, Adam was a hunter. The Roitz men and Adam, along with Stan's good buddy (and soon to be Adam's as well) Wayne Thornberg enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips over the years. Adam cherished the Roitz family, especially Paul whom he had known since first grade. Adam hunted elk, deer, duck, antelope & wild boar and was a responsible huntsman always making good use of the meat by feeding his family with it and sharing with friends. He discovered the art and sport of bass fishing in 1998 and never looked back. He owned a state of the art bass boat, and a good time to Adam could only be described as taking friends and family out on the lake. He was an excellent teacher and the adage "teach & share what you love to do" was never more true than it was for Adam and bass fishing. He was extremely skilled and placed in several tournaments over the years. Adam counted good friends Shawn Graemore , Don Reighley and Johnny Gray among his best bass fishing buddies through the years. He treasured his dear friends Kenny Horton of Santa Cruz and Kim Bachman of Benicia. If a man can be called rich by the number of friends he has, then Adam was a millionaire. His friendships were not like the seasons, coming and going. They stayed, grew stronger and multiplied. He was a loyal, trustworthy and generous friend to many. He was the kind to give you the shirt off his back and not expect anything in return. He treasured his friendships as blessings in his life. Adam is survived by his children, Mya and Reese Mokres and their mother Michele Smith Mokres of Chico, CA; his parents, Ward & Diane Schuyler of Santa Cruz, CA; Jackie Mokres of Gilroy, CA; siblings Allyson (Mokres) Phillips, brother-in-law Mike Phillips and nephews Trevor & Jared; Andrea Mokres Folkes, nephew Kaiden & niece Rylee; Andrew Mokres, niece Jenna & nephew Noah. He is preceded in death by his father George Mokres and grandparents John & Mary Mokres, Edward & Alyce Werthman and his dearest friend & fellow fisherman Bruce Rhett.
