Allan Carter

Obituary of Allan Vernon Carter

Allan went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 6, 2013. He was 95 years old. He was born in San Jose and came to Santa Cruz as a small child. He was a graduate of Santa Cruz High School. Allan loved Santa Cruz, and lived in the mountains for over 60 years. He lived independently cooking for his 93 year old wife, building fires in his wood stove and using the wood splitter up until the day he died. Allan was loved and cherished by his family of 5 children; Harold, Betty, Douglas, Leonard and Marian, 11 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. Allan is survived by his wife Edith. He proposed to Edith during a black-out during Pearl Harbor. Riding together in the back seat of the car, as air raid sirens went off, they had to pull to the side of the road and turn off their headlights for fear that airplanes would spot them during WW2. While sitting in the dark, Allan slipped an engagement ring on Edith's finger. She said yes, and they were married for 71 years! After Allan was already married, he served in the U.S. Army as a typist to his superior. The General was very sorry to see his typist go, when Allan was discharged. After the Army, Allan was a Union Carpenter, whose specialty was framing and he was very talented at finish work. His career spanned 30 years. Dad was loved and will be greatly missed. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 14th, at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St. in Santa Cruz beginning at 3:00pm. Allan will be laid to rest at San Joaquin National Cemetery, in Santa Nella, CA.
