Obituary of Robert Glenn McClelland

Rob grew up in Campbell, CA and would spend his summer months in Tahoe as a kid. When he was in high school he tried a sport that was out of the ordinary, pole vaulting & amazed the coaches. He broke the record at Campbell high. This remains unbroken!! (The school burned down) He lived in Los Gatos & San Jose and moved to Santa Cruz with his wife Gail & their 3 children in 1989. Rob owned San Jose Paint & Wallpaper, which was started by his grandfather. This 3rd generation business moved to the old Valley Fair Shopping center. The name was changed to San Jose Art, selling art materials instead of "paint and wallpaper". In 1984 they moved locations and opened a sign business on Bascom Ave. called San Jose Art & Sign. People loved coming there just to listen to Rob's stories. Fishing, camping, little league, soccer, the Raiders & the SJ sharks and of course his Kids were #1 topics. Rob was an avid outdoorsman. He loved everything about the outdoors including boating, camping and backpacking. In the summer you could find him at any one of his favorite California lakes either fishing, driving his boat with his kids, or relaxing lakeside with his dog. In the winter you could find him skiing the slopes in Tahoe, he was an excellent skier, but was known for pretending to be an out of control beginner going down black diamonds, just for laughs. He was a great father always involved with any sports and activities that his children participated in and was the coach for many of his children's teams, and also donated many signs to the baseball and soccer fields. Anyone who met Rob would know his amazing stories and one of a kind sense of humor. Through the years he remained a generous, caring, very funny, outgoing gentleman. He was an amazing dad, friend and all around great man. Rob is survived by his sons; Ryan McClelland and Patrick McClelland, his daughter Shaunna McClelland, his father Glenn McClelland, His brother John McClelland, and his wife Loretta McClelland, his sister, June Scott (Bob). He is preceded in death by his mother Jeanne McClelland 2/17/1925 – 11/21/2012 and Lucky Grizz McClelland; family Dog. A Memorial Service will be held at New Life Church; 707 Fair Ave. (Corner of Delaware & Fair Ave), Santa Cruz, CA on August 3rd at 3:30pm
