Obituary of Joan Marie Lundell

Joan Marie Sullivan Lundell Born June 28th 1932, passed peacefully in her home in Capitola surrounded by her family on July 24th 2014. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Cletus Sullivan and Marie Sullivan Enright of San Jose; treasured wife of the late Dr. Lowell C, Lundell; beloved mother of Chris Lundell, Kathi Zollinger and Lisa (Matthew) Ulliman; cherished grandmother to Rhiannon, Shannon, Rachel, Nick, Matt, Chelsea, Ethan, Cecelia, Mark, and great-grandsons William and Hudson. She is also survived by her siblings Richard and C. Steven Sullivan, Patricia Sullivan-Hastings (wife of Thomas C. Hastings) and the rest of the loving Sullivan, Hastings, Lundell, and Rice families. Joanie grew up in San Jose and attended St. Patrick's grammar school and Notre Dame High School. She received her B.A. in English at San Jose State and Washington State Universities. She was an avid water colorist and frequent traveler, her favorite destinations were Ireland, Ohio, and Lake Tahoe. Joanie was a devout Catholic and member of St. Pius Parish and St. Joseph's Catholic Community. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ serving faithfully her parish and local Catholic community. She was a devoted chaplain at Our Lady of Fatima Villa and later at Dominican Hospital and spent much of her time providing grief counseling and prayer to those in need. It was her life's ambition to grow in her understanding of Jesus and to bring those she loved closer to the Catholic faith. Services held at Saint Joseph's Catholic Community, 435 Monterey Ave, Capitola on Thursday July 31, 2014. Rosary at 11:00 a.m., with Funeral Mass to follow. Reception in the hall following the Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Catholic Charities USA or Wounded Warriors Project.
