Obituary of George Francis Howells

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday for George Francis Howells who died early Sunday morning at Dominican Hospital of a stroke. He was raised in Bakersfield, California, graduated from Cal Berkley and earned his Doctor of Pharmacology degree at UC Medical Center in San Francisco. While at Berkley, he met his future wife, Nancy, at Cal and developed a real love for supporting Cal football which he continued to enjoy throughout his life. He came to Aptos in 1965, bought and operated Aptos Pharmacy until his retirement. George's surviving family members include his wife of 57 years, Nancy Howells; their two children, Chris and Lori and her husband Tobey Brummer. George also leaves his four beloved grandchildren: Chelsea and Gavin Howells, and Maxx and Griffin Brummer. He is also survived by his sister and her husband, Judy and Richard Anderson; his nephews and niece: John, Greg and Susie Smith. George was an avid swimmer. He loved refinishing guns and traveling to various new places in the world. He was a parishioner of Resurrection Catholic Church and participated in the church's music ministry too. His grandchildren loved to listen to his very creative "Beatle Bug" stories by the campfire. In their early years, both George and Nancy raised miniature horses, showing them around the country. The mass will be on Friday, January 2, 2015, at Resurrection Church (7600 Soquel Dr.) in Aptos, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Any kind acts of charity can be made in George's memory to an organization of your choice.
