Obituary of Ronald Bargas

Ronald "Ron" Bargas loved the Lord Jesus and went home to be with him on December 11, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with a congenital heart defect. He was 73. Ron was born in Watsonville on June 30, 1941, the son of Gregory and Alma Bargas. He grew up in Santa Cruz where he has been a life long resident. He attended local area schools and as a young boy through the example of his father and mother developed a strong work ethic. During his youth he sold the San Francisco Call-Bulletin at Cowell's and Main Beaches, he later had a paper route. Ron served and was honorably discharged from the California National Guard, 159th Infantry Regiment. He worked for Salz Tannery for 21 years as an industrial machine mechanic and then two years for the City of Santa Cruz. He later began working for the Christian Church Home as a supervisor where he was empoyed for 16 years. He enjoyed outdoor activities and was very adventurous. He was at home in the ocean and the bay and enjoyed taking his family out on his boat Salmon fishing. He also loved to water ski, hunt, and scuba dive. He dove for Abalone along the north coast and scuba dove up and down the coast of California including the Channel Islands. He also enjoyed clamming for Pismo Clams. He was patriotic and loved the American Flag. Ron was a loving husband and devoted father. He had a loving relationship with his wonderful wife of 53 years and also loved his two sons dearly, offering encouragement and help when it was needed. He is survived by his wife, Sigrid Bargas of Capitola; two sons, Mike Bargas and Rick Bargas; his brother, Gregory Bargas and two sisters, Martha "Marti" Bargas and Rita Love. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Rachel, David, Brandon, Jason and Amanda and four great grandchildren, Abby, Hanna, Malorie and Eliza Jane. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Greg and Alma Bargas and his brothers, Rudy Escalante and Randy Bargas. A celebration of Ron's life will be held at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz on Tuesday Dec. 16, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Ron and his family would like to express their deep and heartfelt appreciation for the tender and loving care provided by Ron's cardiologists, Dr. Jay Johnson of Santa Cruz and Dr. Michael Fowler of Stanford.
