Obituary of Peg Davis

September 17, 1934 – August 1, 2023

60 Year Resident of Ben Lomond

Family and friends will gather in Santa Cruz to say farewell to a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted steward of the San Lorenzo Valley, Peg Davis who passed away at Sunshine Villa in Santa Cruz.  Born in Omaha, Nebraska, she was 88 years old.

Peg was raised in Oregon, and it was during her college years, she met Tom Davis, a Korean War Veteran who was attending Oregon State on the GI Bill.  The couple were married and moved to the San Lorenzo Valley in 1961 settling first in Boulder Creek, and later building their home in Ben Lomond.

Peg was a devoted volunteer with Valley Churches United, and during the flood and slides of 1982, Peg was instrumental in working with all the agencies and shelters helping to bring aid to her neighbors and community. She continued much more volunteer work with Valley Churches United through her church where she and Tom were longtime parishioners of St. John Catholic Church.

Peg worked as a secretary with San Lorenzo Valley School District and leaves many dear friends and colleagues whose friendships she cherished.  She will be remembered for her community involvement in numerous organizations and charities including Young Ladies Institute #95, Doran Resource Center for the Blind, and Marriage Encounters Weekends in 1975 where she held several positions in the movement including Regional Board Chair Couple and Registrar Couple.  For more than 28 years, she served as secretary-treasurer of the Larita Woods Mutual Road Association.

Peg and Tom were accomplished travelers and visited many distant destinations including Argentina, Costa Rica, Russia, and Thailand. They were dedicated to making annual road trips to visit relatives in Oregon, and there will be fond memories of Payette Lake in Idaho and the National Canyon Three Parks trips.

She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law; Gary and Kelly Davis and Donald and Nancy Davis. She also leaves her grandchildren Ryan Schwenderlaufe, Dakota Lang, Adam Taylor, Nicholas Davis, Charlie Davis, Thomas Taylor, and her great granddaughter, Tallulah Lang.

Peg was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Tom Davis in 2009, and her daughter Resa Davis in 2014.

A Catholic Blessing Ceremony and committal service will be held at Twelve noon on Thursday August 17, 2023 at Holy Cross Cemetery in Santa Cruz.  A kind act of charity can be made in her memory to Valley Churches United.
