We spent many beautiful hours with Heinz and Uschi in Bonny Doon and are very thankful for this. We enjoyed Heinz and Uschi's company and admired Heinz hobbies. We will miss Heinz very much. He will continue to live in our memories. Uschi and Isabelle offered Heinz two beautiful decades of life.

Heinz was very supportive of our German class at Branciforte Junior High. He even donated an umbrella and posters to decorate our room. It was fun to have someone with whom to practice speaking German and share German culture.

I loved Heinz and will miss him, but am so very glad to have gotten to know him through the years. What an amazing human being he was, for 84 years. Deeply in love with his Ushi and so proud and happy to be the father of Isabel, he couldn’t leave them out of any conversation. I met Heinz when he searched for answers to a fastener question at our store; he made me a stronger hardware person, just trying to keep up with him. He had standards in tools and equipment, as in his human endeavors, that didn’t buckle or bend and not many can say that in our generation, but he did not condescend. His precision was so exactly suited for micro-adjusting, repairing and calibrating that his lens business required. Yet that he had an artist’s eye is easy to see in the styling of his building, in concrete and woodwork. Here his precision and detail made for clean, fine joinery in very large, welcoming, strong and functional structures. And he was generous, a great host. He was still curious, learning piano tuning and taking instruction in piano playing itself, in his 80’s! An avid gardener and landscaper, as well. And a patriot extraordinaire. A most passionate, extraordinary man, amazing enough, but the more so considering the harrowing youth and early life that he overcame to reach these later years. I am left reflecting on the wonderful heart that God placed in Heinz, whom we celebrate. No oppressors could suppress the passion to thrive that led him through those early years. And no downturn in the economy or human slight could derail him long. Thank you, Heinz, for sharing your passion and clarity of purpose. May the peace that passes understanding surround you, his family.

We have met Heinz about 5 years ago. The death of Heinz struck us like an unexpected thunder. We are so very sorry that he passed away. We have many happy memories of him. Despite his age we have experienced him with so much energy and enthusiasm. We felt always welcomed and enjoyed lovely Easter picnics and birthday parties with family and friends. Every time there was something we were surprised about such as the lovely Bavarian style hut in his garden, musicians with accordion and trumpet, his efforts to repair optical instruments, bee hives, the pruning of fruit trees, quails in the garden, the tuning an old piano etc.
We had very interesting conversations about his past or current events. We admired his versatile knowledge and interest in so many different areas such as technology, music, gardening, nature, history, politics etc. Although he had immigrated to the U.S. decades ago, he was still very connected to his home country Germany.
We really admired his energy and willpower, constantly working on new projects. At the same time, he was also very caring for his family. We will miss him.

Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy.
