Obituary of Heinz Paul Gross

Services will be on Saturday for Heinz Gross who passed away on July 7, 2013 while working on his Bonny Doon property and enjoying the company of friends and family. He was 84 years old. Born in Lawaldau, Germany, he has been a resident of Santa Cruz County for the past 55 years. Mr. Gross served his country in the US Army. For more than 50 years, he owned firms that specialized in the engineering of precision medical equipment. He opened a delicatessen in Santa Cruz on Mission Street and later opened the Heinz Biergarten and Delicatessen on the Pacific Garden Mall in the early 1980's. His family will forever remember his passion for working in the outdoors on the mountain home he loved so very much. He loved animals and was especially fond of dogs. A talented woodworker, his rustic nature fit perfectly into both his hard work ethics, and creating beautiful things from materials that nature provided. Mr. Gross is survived by his beloved wife, Ursula Scholz Gross of Bonny Doon, his daughter, Isabelle Gross of Bonny Doon, his son, Paul Gross of Orinda, CA; daughter, Susan Gross of Watsonville, daughter and son in-law, Debbie and Tom Paille of Bonny Doon, and son and daughter in-law, Michael and Patricia Gross of Capitola. He also leaves his loving grandchildren: Christa, Toby and Sarah Warthemann, Jenna and Sean Paille, and David and Brian Gross. Friends and family will gather on Saturday, July 13, at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel at 1 p.m. for the funeral service. Burial services with military honors will follow at Santa Cruz Memorial Park Cemetery. Any kind acts of charity may be made to the Santa Cruz SPCA.
