Martin Schreiber

Obituary of Martin Schreiber

August 10, 1948 – September 10, 2017

Resident of Santa Cruz

A private family ceremony will be held for Martin Schreiber who passed away from injuries he sustained in a surfing accident this past Sunday.  Born in Corvallis, Oregon, he was 69 years old.  He was affectionately known as “Marty the Mechanic” and for more than 36 years, operated his mobile mechanic service throughout Santa Cruz County.  Marty’s passions included surfing to be sure, but he loved skateboarding and always rode his bike or scooter to the surf.  Marty was a member of Pleasure Point Night Fighters, and leaves many dear friends, surfing buddies and fellow music lovers that will miss him and cherish the many memories that they shared. He was an accomplished guitarist, vocalist, and played piano and harmonica. His favorite music was Boogie Woogie and the Blues, and was regularly seen around town wearing his “Blues Brothers” Fedora.

Marty is survived by his loving wife and companion of 36 years, Suzy Schreiber, his daughters; Cleo White, Marissa Schreiber, and Morgan Schreiber, and his son Jeff Siracusa.  He also leaves his two brothers; Loren Schreiber, Paul Schreiber, and his sister Ramona Mayer.

A private cremation and committal is planned. Any kind acts of charity can be made in Marty’s name to the Santa Cruz Surf Foundation.  In addition, a GoFundMe account (https://www.gofundme.com/martymechanic) is established to help support his family, and a memorial paddle out will commence at Rockview/Sewer Peak on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 3:16 PM.  Please visit the Benito and Azzaro Homepage to share your condolences and reflections with his family.
